US retail sales rose 0.2% in January, the Commerce Department said. Data for December was revised to show sales dropping 1.6% instead of 1.2%, the biggest drop since September 2009. Excluding automobiles, gasoline, building materials, and food, sales rebounded 1.1% in January. The January sales report was delayed by the partial shutdown of the federal government.
