Retail sales increased by 0.9% over September and grew 2.2% year-over-year, according to the National Retail Federation’s measure. The calculations excluded automobiles, gasoline stations and restaurants. The NRF said all sectors were strong except furniture, home furnishing and department stores. The Commerce Department said October sales rose 0.8%. Among retailers still reporting monthly same-store sales, L Brands was up 1.0%, Gap was down 1.0%, and Costco was up 2.0%.
